Our Afghanistan Postal Code Database offers a unique and detailed solution for logistics, mail services, and data analysis. This dataset is meticulously structured to navigate the complexities of Afghanistan's evolving addressing system, which was developed by Afghan Post in cooperation with the Universal Postal Union(UPU).
Unmatched Multilingual Support
To ensure maximum usability both internationally and locally, this dataset is provided in three languages. Every geographical entity includes:
- English: Standard Latin script names for easy integration with international systems.
- Dari (دری): One of the two official languages of Afghanistan, provided in its native Arabic script.
- Pashto (پښتو): The other official language of Afghanistan, also in its native Arabic script.
This tri-lingual format is essential for accurate local mail delivery, customer database management, and any application requiring precise, officially recognized place names.
The New 6-Digit Postal Code System (Post-2024 Reform)
The structure of the 6-digit code is based on the official PP-DD-ZZ format:
- PP (First two digits): Province Code.
- DD (Middle two digits): District Code.
- ZZ (Final two digits): Specific delivery zone, known locally as a Guzar or Nahia (neighborhood).
Understanding the Data Structure and Administrative Divisions
Afghanistan's administrative geography is layered, and our dataset is structured to reflect this. The hierarchy is generally as follows:
- Province: The primary, first-level administrative division.
- District: The second-level division.
- Numbered Zones (Urban Areas): In major cities like Kabul, districts are further subdivided into numbered zones (e.g., "District 1," "District 2") for mail sorting and urban management.
- Locality / Village: The third-level division, corresponding to a specific neighborhood or village.
Variable Data Granularity: From Street Level to Village Level
The precision of address data in Afghanistan varies by region, and our dataset accurately reflects this ground reality.
- High Precision (Urban Centers): For the capital, Kabul, the data granularity is exceptionally high, extending down to the street address level.
- Standard Precision (Other Regions): For most other provinces and rural areas, the data precision is at the locality or village level, which is the standard for practical mail delivery in these regions.
It is important to note that while a single postal code often covers an entire street, some long streets may cross the boundaries of postal zones. This means different addresses on the same street could potentially have different postal codes.
